What/Who is a Ghumakkadi Kalakaar?

Back during the good ol’  days, there were people blessed with gifts from God. People considered serving and hosting them an honour, they took care of these gifted artists who travelled across lands spreading joy all around. They were named 'Kalakaar', translated to 'An Artist'.

Fast forward centuries later, our fast-paced and busy lives have led us to undermine the relevance of the happiness these artists bring through their art.

We want to share their art in its truest form, appreciate it and spread it as far and wide as we can.

And so, we've announced the first-ever community-funded tour in India, 'Ghumakkadi Kalakaar', a movement to support these joy-givers as they travel to different cities, performing and bringing light into our lives.

We are back to our community to crowdfund and support the artist who will be touring through our gatherings.

These particular gatherings at which our touring artist will be performing is where you would get to fund and learn more about their art!

We launched our project back in April 2019 and have had 10 artists spread their magic around 15 cities before the pandemic.

While we were thinking of what we can do to make more noise and help push the Indie scene to a different level using our community which is highly supportive and growing at a rapid pace; We had this vision that the artists themselves should be provoked by us to get out of their comfort zone and know the unknown!

Being ghumakaddis ourselves, we made this start-up work in 16 cities today by travelling the length and breadth of the country in trains, planes, buses or even hitchhiking in trucks and tractors!

We knew that the reason we love such intimate gatherings is the community that gathers around, meeting like-minded people in different lands who are just the same and yet unique in their own special way!

It was like going back to our family, no matter which city it was and this feeling kept us constantly encouraged even through the toughest of times. The emotions that we felt from the stage and the warmth, love and hospitality received from everywhere filled us with happiness and contentment.

We knew that the artists needed this as well and we would have to push them on a long tiring journey with very limited funds. But it was meant to be a journey that would give them the best feeling they could ever get out of life, a one of a kind experience. The gatherings of our community of artists ensure that everyone feels the same love, be it in Chennai or Chandigarh!

What is a Motojojo Gathering?

A Motojojo Gathering is an intimate community gathering where upcoming indie artists perform in unique spaces to an intimate audience who loves art and travel.

Present in more than 15 cities, Motojojo gatherings are a way to get lost in the magic of stories, poetry, and original music, and to inspire people to know the unknown.

To make sure new and talented artists are encouraged to continue their journey to spread happiness through their art and are respected, contributions in the form of tickets booked by the guests go to the artists performing. The artists, as well as the audience is curated to ensure a vibe’s created between like-minded people. Guests arrive on time for the first act and stay for the entire show.

Travel stories are from common people (not necessarily pro artists) based on real-life, raw experiences, ranging from an incident in the local transport/city to climbing a mountain, swimming a sea to exploring any part of the world.
